Institutional Mission<\/h2>\n

To preserve and strengthen the territorial integrity of the country by providing professional and technical advice to the Supreme Government, and by participating in the conclusion and implementation of treaties, the negotiation of agreements, as well as forums and matters related to Chile\u2019s international boundaries and Physical, Neighbourhood and Regional Integration Policies, with a focus on the rule of law and gender equity, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.<\/p>\n

Strategic Objectives<\/h2>\n
    \n
  1. To contribute to preserving the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Chile in accordance with international law, treaties and agreements entered into by the country, promoting sustainable development through desk studies and fieldwork.<\/li>\n
  2. To coordinate and promote participation in all mechanisms, forums and other instances related to neighbourhood and regional integration, physical integration, facilitation, cooperation and border security with neighbouring countries, or through them with other countries in the region, within the scope of its responsibilities. This includes promoting the participation of Regional Governments and border services in support of neighbourhood development, while incorporating a gender perspective.<\/li>\n
  3. To provide technical and legal advice to the Supreme Government to ensure the proper implementation of international treaties and effective participation in multilateral forums on boundary and territorial matters, with particular emphasis on the management of transboundary water resources and the incorporation of a gender perspective.<\/li>\n
  4. To develop an institutional gender strategy that highlights DIFROL\u2019s commitment to promoting diversity, equality and full respect for human rights, ensuring that the provision of goods and services incorporates a gender perspective.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Our institution carries out its work through its two Directorates: the Directorate of Borders and the Directorate of Boundaries, as well as specialized Units reporting to the National Directorate.<\/p>\n

    Department of Borders<\/h3><\/div>
    <\/span><\/div><\/div>

    • Guide the application of program for the development of the border area, acting as a coordinating agency on matters within its competence, between ministries and other institutions of the State Administration.<\/li>\n
    • Provide technical coordination to agencies of the State Administration and, bilaterally, with the neighboring countries, for the operation of control services on matters of physical integration, the opening and closing of border crossing points, the development of transboundary interconnecting roads, the bi-oceanic corridors, as well as in other matters assigned to it by Law.<\/li>\n
    • Coordinate tasks of the Boundary Committees.<\/li>\n
    • Authorize expeditions in the border area by persons having their legal residence abroad.<\/li>\n
    • Authorize the sale, lease, concession, and other contracts regarding immovable properties located in the border area.<\/li>\n

      Department of Boundaries<\/h3><\/div>

      • Interpret the treaties and other instruments that set the land, maritime, and air boundaries of Chile.<\/li>\n
      • Chair the Chilean Boundary Commission and work with the Mixed Boundary Commissions of Argentina, Bolivia and Peru, both in cabinet work and in the field.<\/li>\n
      • Replace and densify boundary markers on the border and determine their geographic coordinates.<\/li>\n
      • Authorize the admission of maps, geographic maps, and publications which contain representations of or references to the international boundaries of Chile, and reviews them for the purpose of authorizing their edition or circulation in Chile.<\/li>\n
