Exchange of experiences on border integration committees between Chile and Uruguay<\/h2><\/div><\/div>[vc_empty_space][vc_column_text css=””]<\/p>\n

On November 28, the National Department of State Borders and Boundaries of the State of Chile (DIFROL) and the General Directorate for Border, Boundary, and Maritime Affairs of Uruguay (DGAFLM) met to discuss matters of border integration.<\/p>\n

The activity, “Exchange of Experiences in Border Integration Committees: Sharing Knowledge and Best Practices for Border Cooperation,” was held online and aimed to identify best practices and opportunities for improvement that could strengthen these integration mechanisms, such as Integration Committees.<\/p>\n

Representing Uruguay at the meeting were the Director General of the DGALMN, Ambassador Carlos Amor\u00edn; the Deputy Director General of the DGALMN, Ambassador \u00c1lvaro Ceriani; and the Third Secretary, Mr. \u00c1lvaro Pic\u00f3n. Representing Chile were the Director of Borders of DIFROL, Mr. Pedro Pablo Silva; The Head of the Border Integration and Facilitation Department of DIFROL, Mr. Alejandro Ahumada C\u00e1ceres, and officials from the State Border Department team. Officials from the Chilean Embassy in Uruguay and the South American Division of the Chilean Foreign Ministry also attended.<\/p>\n

Chile has a total of 10 border integration committees with its neighbouring countries: Peru (1), Bolivia (1), and Argentina (8). Six of these committees have met so far in 2025.<\/p>\n

This activity is part of the actions undertaken by this Department to explore opportunities for continuous improvement and strengthening of these instances<\/p>\n
