Chile and Peru held the Eighth Ordinary Meeting of the Joint Permanent Boundary Commission in Santiago.<\/h2><\/div><\/div>[vc_empty_space][vc_column_text css=””]
\nOn January 29, 2026, the Eighth Plenary Meeting of the Joint Permanent Boundary Commission between Chile and Peru was held at the offices of the National Directorate of Borders and State Boundaries (DIFROL). The main objective of the meeting was to continue working on maintaining the shared international boundary.<\/p>\n

Participating from Chile at this meeting were Mr. Samy Hawa Arellano, President of the Chilean Boundary Commission and current President of the Chile-Peru Joint Boundary Commission; Delegates Mr. Marcelo Luengo Erices and Mr. Pablo Urbina Ter\u00e1n; Ms. Marta Mateluna R\u00edos, Secretary of the Chilean Commission; and Ms. Ana Sofia Moya Barrientos, a professional from the Directorate of Borders and State Boundaries. It is worth noting that Mr. Carlos Dettleff Beros, the National Director of Borders and State Boundaries, was present at the beginning and end of the meeting. Also present were officials from the South American Directorate, Ms. Lorena Guzman Nu\u00f1ez and Ms. Cristina Guti\u00e9rrez Sanhueza.<\/p>\n

Representing Peru were the President of the Peruvian Boundary Commission, Ambassador Librado Orozco Zapata, and delegates Ambassador Gustavo Figueroa Navarro, Counsellor Virna Ruiz Taipe, and Mr. Jos\u00e9 Gianella Herrera and Mr. Percy Herrera Vargas. The meeting also included the initial participation of the Peruvian Ambassador to Chile, Ambassador John Camino Cannok, and the Head of Chancery at the Peruvian Embassy, \u200b\u200bMinister Reynaldo Portugal V\u00e1squez.<\/p>\n

The meeting was held in a pleasant and cooperative atmosphere, allowing for the efficient handling of the topics discussed. The main topics discussed at the meeting were the preparation of a report on the work carried out during the 2022-2026 period and the planning of fieldwork and meetings to be held in 2026. There were full agreement and a strong commitment to the upcoming activities.<\/p>\n

At the end of the meeting, the Presidents of both Delegations expressed their satisfaction with the progress achieved and pledged to strengthen relations between the two Commissions and between the two sister nations.<\/p>\n
