20th Meeting of the Binational Commission for the Optimization of Cristo Redentor
The 20th Meeting of the Binational Commission for the Optimization of Cristo Redentor took place on August 12, 2025. An event that brings together the Valparaíso region and Argentina’s provinces of Mendoza and San Luis.
The event was held in the historic building of the National Customs Service, where authorities from both Chile and Argentina, along with the heads of the border control services, discussed on various topics for the coordination and improvement of the border crossings Los Libertadores, Horcones, and Uspallata.
Among the main agreements reached at this meeting, can be mentioned the decision to hold monthly coordination meetings to resolve the structural and operational issues affecting the habitability of these border facilities; the upcoming visit by Argentina’s authorities to los Horcones’s facilities to identify pending improvements in the accommodations that are assigned to the Chilean PDI; as well as keeping track of the work that is carried out by the National Customs Service for the definitive implementation of the Simplified Customs System, currently in coordination with the PDI authorities.
